Abstract:
Biodiesel is a renewable, environmental-friendly and sustainable fuel which is produced from vegetable oils or animal fats through transesterification reaction. Using less expensive feedstocks such as waste cooking oils and vegetable oils can reduce the cost of biodiesel production. However, they include high free fatty acids (FFA) content which decrease biodiesel yield due to soap formation. One way to remove FFA from oil is applying adsorption technology. Therefore, this review paper is aimed to provide an overview on the process of adsorption of FFA by different types of adsorbents and various methods for analyzing oils during preparation for transesterification reaction.
