Abstract:
Gobiidae is one of the largest families of the fish species with 1,359 species in 189 genera, which found in freshwater, brackish water and marine ecosystems, especially in tropical regions. According to the latest Iranian freshwater checklist 42 species of Gobiidae (10% of iranian freshwater fishes) in 15 genera reported, including Anatirostrum profundrum, Benthophilus baeri, B. baeri ctenolepidus, B. leobergius, B. macrocephalus, B. pinchuki, Boleophthalmus dussumieri, Chasar bathybius, Glossogobius giuris, Knipowitschia caucasica, K. iljini , Msogobius nonultimus, Neogobius caspius, N. melanostomus, eogobius pallasi, Periophthalmus waltoni, Scartaleaos tenuis, Ponticola cyrius, P. goebelii, P. garlap, P. iranicus, P. syrman, Proterorhinus nasalis, Rhinogobius similis. This family usually has little commercial value but plays an important role in aquatic ecosystems. In the present study, an illustrated presentation of Iranian gobiids is provided.
