Oxidation of Alcohols by TBHP Applying Fe(ІІІ) Complexes on the Magnetic Nanoparticles

Abstract:

Fe3O4 nanoparticles were synthesized through co-precipitation method, and were coated withsilica via a reverse microemulsion method [1]. Then iron(ІІІ) Schiff base complex was immobilizedon the surface of Fe3O4@SiO2. The Fe3O4@SiO2/Fe(ІІІ) Schiff base catalyst wascharacterized with XRD, TEM, VSM and FT-IR techniques. XRD pattern of the catalystshowed a pure cubic phase. Spherical morphology with the size of about 60 nm was detectedwith TEM image of the catalyst. Also the paramagnetic property of the nanocatalyst was recognizedusing VSM technique, and FT-IR confirmed the grafting of iron complex on theFe3O4@SiO2 support. The catalyst was used for oxidation of alcohols in the presence ofTBHP at 80 °C with conversion average 20-%95%, and 100% selectivity to correspondingcarbonyls.
