Energy Conservation in Housing: A review article in Iran

The building sector has been identified as a major energy consumer sincenearly half of the world’s energy use is associated with providing sufficientenvironmental conditioning in buildings, and about two thirds of this energyis used for heating, cooling and mechanical ventilation (Becerik-Gerber &Rice, 2010). From a local perspective, residential consumption was stated asthe third highest energy consumption after industrial and commercial. In thisreview paper, some energy-saving procedures with a focus on affordablehousing (such as social, subsidized and prefabricated housing) in order toenclose these buildings to affordable green housing system with the lowestincrease in cost and the most compatibility with user’s behavior in thebuilding is discussed. Then, the benefits of sustainable housing are statedand finally BIM, and how it influences the design of houses are mentioned.
