Abstract:
In the economies that are dependent on foreign incomes, the exchange-rate plays a crucial role.Considering the geographical location of Iran, the importance of tourism market in obtaining incomeand creating employment, and the role of the exchange-rate in attracting international tourists, in thepresent study, the effect of positive and negative exchange-rate shocks on international tourism marketof Iran was investigated by using monthly data of official exchange-rate and number of internationalarrival tourist for the period of 2011:04 – 2017:02. The results of Quantile estimation and MCMB-ABootstrap have been shown that the positive and negative exchange-rate shocks have a significanteffect on international arrival tourist to Iran in every decile. Based on these findings, it isrecommended that by adopting appropriate exchange-rate policies and purpose-oriented planning, itwill be possible to increase such foreign income from tourism industry.
