Abstract:
Mg and its alloys are biodegradable, mechanically strong, and promising for an orthopedic implant and device applications. However, currently available degrade too rapidly to meet clinical needs. Therefore, an effective way to reduce the rate of scaffold degradability is coating. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of pulse electrodeposition parameters such as peak current density and duty cycle on surface characteristics of nano structure calcium phosphate coating on theporous Mg- ۲Zn (wt.%) scaffold. Pulse deposition electrode method was used to produce the coating of nano calcium phosphate. Mg-۲Zn (wt.%) porous alloys were prepared using a powder metallurgical process. The results showed that the optimum conditions to create uniform coating on the Mg-۲Zn scaffold are at ۴۰ mA/cm۲ peak current density, ۰.۲ duty cycle , ۲h time coating consists of Hydroxyapatite andBrushite with needle-like (which exhibits a similar composition of natural bone) and plate-like structures under optimum conditions
