Abstract:
Background: The weakness of hip muscles, abductors, and externalrotators has been confirmed in individuals with patellofemoral painsyndrome in comparison with healthy people. This study investigatesthe effects of gluteus medius Kinesio taping in athletes withpatellofemoral pain syndrome during functional tasks. Methods: A total of ۳۰ females with PFPS were randomly assignedinto Kinesio taping group (n = ۱۵) and the placebo group (n = ۱۵).Pain intensity was measured using the numerical pain rating scale in ۴functional tasks; walking, squatting, ascending, and descending stairs,at baseline plus immediately as well as ۲۴ following Kinesio taping. The data were then statistically analyzed. Results: Mixed-model ANOVAs, with repeated measures on time, indicated statistically significant differences between groups in painover time for walking (P = ۰.۰۰۰), squatting (P = ۰.۰۰۷), anddescending stairs tasks (P = ۰.۰۰۰). However, there were no significantdifferences between groups in the ascending stair task (P = ۰.۶۵۱).Conclusions: The results showed that compared to placebo in reducingpain in athletes with PFPS, gluteus Medius Kinesio taping waseffective in functional tasks of walking, squatting, as well ss moving upand down stairs.
