Abstract:

In this paper, performance a low-cost variable-speed variable-load wind turbine with energy storage system is analyzed. A simple and efficient control method for DC/DC boost converter interfaced permanent magnet synchronous generator-based (PMSG) stand-alone wind energy conversion system (WECS) is presented. The proposed control technique namely DTC by adjusting the duty cycle of the boost converter in switch-mode rectifier (SMR) and therefore, controlling the generator torque directly in optimum values, makes the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) of wind turbine possible, and the demand for the single phase inverter and AC loads is granted within the whole range of wind speed. To supply the loads in low wind speed conditions, lead-acid battery bank (LABB) is used to keep the DC link voltage almost constant, as well as increasing the reliability of the system. The main purpose of this paper is to show the performance of the control strategy and active power balance of the system in various conditions of wind speed and load switching. The proposed control method, and the other components of the system are mathematically analyzed and modeled in MATLAB/SIMULINK environment. The results of the complete simulation validate the good performance of the whole system.
