Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Coupling Method for Dam and Hydro-Power Stations Site Selection Problems abstract

Selecting an alternative from a selection set could be mentioned as one of the main issues facing the decision making process of managers. Such these decision makings could be done by consideration of the criteria. If the selection is not even considered, the identification of the desired alternatives or criteria priority level might be needed. In this regard, location evaluation, spatial situation assessment and the effect of each spatial variable on decision making, plays the main role in selection. Presented study, by employing the principles and fundamentals of Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and also by applying the Geographic Information Systems (GIS), as a framework, looks forward to find a new approach to select an alternative from many other choices. In this way, the AHP structure should be developed. Finally, by applying the mentioned AHP Structure in a GIS framework and by employing the capabilities of GI systems, such as Raster Calculations and overlaying, the best site could be selected
