Abstract:
Although applied linguistic research abounds with features of good language learners (GLLs), the intricacy involved in already delineated action possibilities attributed to studious and ingenious learners, on the one hand, and the extent to which teachers’ and learners’ perceptions of such possibilities may diverge, on the other, might legitimately trigger further scrutiny. To this end, the present study endeavored to investigate the affordance of good language learner from the experienced and inexperienced teachers’ and high and low achiever students’ perspectives. A questionnaire adopted from Shi (۲۰۰۶) was given to ۳۰ high achiever and ۳۰ low achiever students using convenience method of sampling. Furthermore, about ۲۰ experienced (n=۱۰) and inexperienced (n = ۱۰) teachers were interviewed on structured questions. The results revealed the epistemological differences among students and teachers as predicated by affordance theory. This fact highlights the importance of interaction among classroom community.
