Comparative Study of Characteristics of a Micro Hydro Using Guide Blade Mechanism as Main Shaft Second Support abstract
Due to a joint research program between the Iranian Research Organization for Science and Technology (IROST) and the University of Glasgow, a 45° inclined axialflow micro hydro turbine was developed to operate under low head and limited flow potentials in rural areas of Iran. The turbine was originally designed to operatewithout guide blades. Later in the project, a (1:2) model of this turbine was manufactured and tested at IROST. To upgrade the performance of the turbine, improvements were made, by the installation of guide blades using their support as second rest point for the main shaft of the turbine, which originally operated as acantilever. The turbine was then tested under various head and flow conditions to findthe effects of the new main shaft design and installation of the guide blade mechanismon the overall performance and characteristics of the turbine
