Application of geomorphological mapping and the trenching technique to the study of landslides in reservoirs. Some Spanish experiences abstract

Geomorphological mapping carried out by our research team in a number of reservoirs (planned, under construction, and in operation) in the NE of Spain, illustrate the practicality of this highly cost-effective approach for both preventive and corrective purposes. Additionally, as illustrates the presented case of the YesaReservoir in the Pyrenees, the application of the trenching technique may provide a great deal of practical information upon which to base our decisions regardinglandslide hazard management, including precise landslides limit, failure mechanisms, chronology, displacement regime (continuous vs. episodic) or long-term slip rate
