Abstract:

Suicide is a growing social problem worldwide. In recent years, we witnessed a growing trend of suicide rates compared to previous years among different groups, especially among young people and adolescents. The objective of this study was to investigate some of the social behaviors involved in suicidal tendency. The research method of the present study was descriptive-correlational. The statistical population of this study consisted of high school students (second year) in Meshginshahr in ۲۰۲۱. In total, ۲۰۰ people were included in the study based on multi-stage random sampling method. In order to collect data, measuring tools of Adolescents Suicide Questionnaire (ASQ) and the California Social Behavior Questionnaire. Data analysis was performed by Pearson correlation coefficient test and regression analysis using SPSS software version ۲۲. The findings of the present study showed that the predictor variables, warmth and intimacy with standard beta coefficient (β = - ۰.۲۷), have a ۲۷% share in explaining the tendency of adolescents to commit suicide (p <۰.۰۱) and then having attention and family confirmation with standard beta coefficient (β = -۰.۲۷) has a ۲۷% share in explaining the tendency of adolescents to commit suicide (p <۰.۰۵). The variable of respect for society’s values, although had a significant relationship with the criterion variable, did not show a statistically significant share in predicting adolescent suicidal tendencies (p> ۰.۰۵). Based on the research findings, it can be concluded that by increasing social skills and positive family relationships and adherence to social values, the tendency to commit suicide decreases. Therefore, in order to prevent suicide, it is necessary for students to receive appropriate suicide prevention interventions such as education, counseling and psychotherapy.
