Comparison of fixed and fluidized bed reactor for production of single-walled carbon nanotubes abstract

Single walled carbon nanotubes prepared from methane decomposition over the Co-Mo/MgO are studied in a fixed bed and fluidized bed reactor .the reaction temperature was in 900-1000 oc and reaction time was 30-60min. the products were characterized by TEM, Raman spectroscopy, SEM, TGA. I n the optimum condition for two type of reactor Results show that single walled carbon nanotubes with good morphology, high quality and narrow diameter distribution are obtain in a fluidized bed reactor rather than in fixed bed reactor. In the fluidized bed reactor because of available space for growing, uniform temperature and concentration causes good control of heat and mass transfer. Therefore fluidized bed reactor is a good reactor for mass production single walled carbon nanotubes with high quality.
