CONDITION MONITORING METHOD POWER PLANTS abstract
Main turbine and generator are the most important rotating machines in power plants. Their reliability and economy are decisive for the economy of the whole plant. A major part of the turbine-related unavailability is caused by vibration problems. Remarkable savings can be achieved by effective condition monitoring of turbosets ; the number of forced outages can be reduced and intervals between general overhauls can be extended. When a turbine. is in operation, the most common faults of a rotor line and bearings can be Identified at an early stage with detailed vibration analysis. In this paper a computerized condition monitoring method for power plants is discussed. It is understood that by this method much more better utilization of existing power generation system is possible and therefore better outage planning is achieved.
