OPTIMUM CAPACITY AND STARTING'S TERM OF PUMPED STORAGE abstract
For utilities having sufficient coal and nuclear generating capability and presently used oil-fired plants to meet peak power requirements, pumped storage can provide a means reducing oil and gas consumption Energy storage can improve the system's response to sudden load changes
System load change of tripont of large generating unit of transmission link can be balanced by pumped storage plant either to absorb or generate power as required The quick response characteristic provides system reliability. Energy storage plant can provide synchronons condenser service, spinning reserve and can operate in a variety of stand by roles. The optimal capacity of pumped can be determinated by the minimisation of the total investment and operation cost of regulating power plant The first part of paper describes the effect of pumped storage on the system s fuel cost the needed total capacity and invest ment cost of regulating power plants In application example presented for the development of Hungarian energy system The second part deals with the studies to define of optimal installed power and reservior capacity. The most expedient term of starting can be determined by minimizing the needed power sources if national economy, according the third part.
