Advanced Concepts for System Design and Documentation abstract

Most stages of instrumentation and control system projects require considerable engineering overhead for planning, design, erection planning, commissioning and final documentation. So far, it is still impossible for such tasks to be performed by a machine, i.e. by a computer. The configuring of automation systems with the according documentation, on the other hand, is a task that can be described by rules and algorithms and is therefore suitable for automatic computer processing. This task has been developed and implemented on workstations to support not only a high level of standardized documentation but also the automatic programming and configuring of instrumentation and control systems from a central database. This paper gives an overview of the necessary documentation concepts and the implementation on work stations to perform these tasks through all project phases.
