DAMPING SSR-OSCILLATIONS USING REACTIVE POWER CONTROLLER FED FROM A PHYSICALLY REALIZABLE STATE OBSERVER abstract
In this paper, a complete synthesis and design of a reactive power controller for damping subsynchronous resonance(SSR) In power systems is presented. The necessary stabilizing signals for such controller are obtained from a physically realizable state observer. A splitting technique Is
used to divide the non-linear dynamics of the synchronous generator into slow and fast dynamics. This enables physical realization of system observability. Also, a detailed non-linear simulation is used to implement and assess the resulting scheme. Based on the states obtained from the designed observer, the paper proposes a new SSR-countermeasure via static VAR compensation system for damping all the SSR-oscillatory modes.
