Because of its higher reliability, economic advantage and physical compactness, the application of Gas Insulated Switcligear (GIS) has spread widely in every area of the world. Further more the splendid feature that GIS is less influenced by the environmental conditions has enabled the construction of power substation on environmentally severe areas. Through basic studies, experimental researches and field experiences since the development stage of GIS, MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC CORPORATION (MELCO) has established the design concept of GIS on every aspect to assure the long term quality of GIS. This paper discusses that on environmental aspects, with presenting some actual applications.
