METHODS PROVIDING STEADY-STATE STABILITY IN POWER TRANSMISSION LINES EQUIPPED WITH CONTROLLABLE SHUNT REACTORS abstract
The analytical expressions defining the requirements for shunt reactor regulation by steady-state aperiodic stability condition are delivered for a power transmission line (TL) of an arbitrary length equipped with controllable shunt reactors, a certain model idealization being involved. The feasibility of stability within a wide range of operating conditions with no reactor overadjustment is demonstrated. The difficulties of achieving stability in TL is established for operating conditions for angles multiple of 180 electrical degrees. A special control low or a modification in TL structure is suggested to eliminate the above drawback.
Recently various alternatives for long distance transfer of power are considered. Here, we are dealing with power transmissions of 1150
kV voltage and up for power transferring of tens of gigawatts for distances of thousands of kilometres [1,21. Among the most efficient alternatives is the HVAC transmission having controllable shunt reactors instolled along a TL at 500-600 1 n intervals (F ig.1) [3]. The reactive power balance and the voltage levels under all operating conditions between no-load running to maximal capacity) are provided at the expense of reactor inductance variation.
