Design development and manufacturing of conventional instrument transformers have experienced for many years, but they have problems for control and protection systems. The development of optical instruinents transformers enable us to give the solution for such problems as, core saturation during short circuit, ferroresonance, hysteresis, DC current transfer to secondary side of CT, electromagnetic influence, etc. optical
transformers are under more experiences and have not been introduced to market as standards; so this article gives a comparison in between these two type of instrument transformer technology.
