Within the industrialised countries it is highly accepted that the area of advanced microprocessors, microcontrollers and their applications have revolutionised many aspects of manufacturing processes particularly for power engineering applications. This paper outlines the validity of such implementation and different phases of advanced microprocessor design used for power engineering. In addition, the advantages and disadvantages of different design principles are outlined.
