BEHAVIOUR OF THE EXTERNAL INSULATION IN CUBA'S POLLUTION CONDITIONS abstract

Since the beginning of the development of electric industry in the world there have been difficulties concerning the operation of electric energy transmission and distribution system, due to the phenomenon of pollution. While , the studies were mainly aimed, at improving the design of the insulating elements, the theorical aspects of the case were left behinde . In the 30's the first important steps concerning the theoritical study of the case has attracted the attention of the electric industries, during the 50's, the need to find a solution to this problem became more urgent and it is from this period onward, that the studies became intensive. Prior to 80's nobody In Cuba, studied the problem of pollution These studies were begun in 1985 and the first results obtained in 1989[1]. The present paper shows the results obtained during more than 14 years of evaluation, both in the field and in the laboratory conditions, concerning the behaviour of the differnt kinds of insulators used in electric energy transmision and distribution lines in Cuba under different pollution conditions. In this Way, it ws possible to establish the requirements and suggestions necessary to achieve an efficent use of insulation, taking into account its specific conditions of Utilization in Cuba.
