CATHODIC PROTECTION OF SEA WATER COOLING SYSTEM IN POWER PLANT abstract
In a fossil fulled or atomic power stations with sea water cooling systems, the most important corrosion problems exist in cooling water unit. These corrosions may create severe problems in unit operations. Other factors may assist with corrosion and inerease distruction of appratus. These factors may include :
- High water velocity and turbulent flow
- Fouling increasing localized corrosion
- Presence of impurities in water
- Chlorination of water to avoid the fouling
- Galvanic corrosion of different material
Among the all protection methods, the cathodic protection has been widely used in corrosion preventation of cooling water systems, generally with great success. The main components to be protected in cooling water systems are:
- Condenser and coolers
- Pumps
- Cooling water canals including gates, fixed and traveling screens.
- Pipeline interal surfaces.
In this article, the cathodic protection of these equipments have been discussed.58-5
