A New Assessment of the Economics of Large -Scale Power Generation Utilising Photovoltaic Technology

A notable aspect of photovoltaic research and technology is the existence of a worldwide community of researchers across Europe, the USA, Japan, Australia and many other countries. This interrelation has proved to be particularly beneficial in assisting the progress of research towards more effective utilisation of solar energy. The authors of this paper have undertaken an investigation of available data in a new assessment of the economics of large-scale power generation utilising photovoltaic technology. In this assessment an overview is presented, linking economic, environmental, health and safety issues as well as the penetration of new technologies. In addition some statistical results related to these issues are included for evaluation and comparison purposes.
