A FAST NETWORK RECONFIGURATION ALGORITHM TO MINIMIZE REAL POWER LOSSES IN DISTRIBUTION SYSTEMS abstract
Network reconfiguration in distribution system is performed by changing the status of sectionalizing switches in the system. In this paper, a fast network reconfiguration technique is presented for loss minimization in distribution system. The technique utilizes network reconfiguration as a planning and or real-time control tool in order to restructure the distribution feeders by changing the open/closed states of the sectionalizing and tie switches. A radial distribution system comprises several loops created with the tie-lines. A loop that gives max imum loss reduction in the system is selected and a loss change formula is used to determine a sectionalizing switch in the loop to be opened for maximum loss reduction. The proposed technique can identify the most effective switches for loss reduction, and can achieve minimum loss configuration with minimum computational efforts. The technique eliminates the need to run numerous load flows as compared to the established me hod.
