AN IMPROVED DIGITAL POWER LINE CARRIER SYSTEM USING COMPRESSION TECHNIQUES

An important goal in electric utilities is providing high link availability. Several methods have been proposed to achieved this end. Power Line Carrier (PLC) communication system provide electric utilities with important communication links to transmit voice signal and data. In this paper, a new voice compression technique to optimizing the available channel bandwidth is indicated. Combining this new compressioni method together with digital realization of single side band modulation technique instead of conventional analog implementation results in high - quality transmission at a bandwidth improvement (saving) on the eight orders of magnitude. This up-graded system which is a combination of a modem to transmit data and a digital signal processor to compress the voice signal results in a reliable and efficient method of information transmission over power lines.
