Air Polution Emission by Fossil Fuel Power Plants abstract
Increasing demand for electricity specially in developing countries needs stabilishment of more plants. Proliferation of power plants in Iran has been accelerated during past decade. This means use of fossil fuel which produces 90% of electric energy has also been enormously
increased. Consumption of residual oil containing 2.5 k to 3.5% Sulfur means tons of S02 discharge every hour. On the other hand 2.6% Nitrogen content of oil together with Nitrogen from air causes high concentration of Nox in flue gases. Since the main product of hydrocarbon's
oxidation is C021 contribution of power plants to climate change should also been Considered. In this research almost all fossil fuel power plants in all over the country were assessed for environmetal Impact of related pollutants. The abstract of some 15 reports are presented in this paper. The flue gas and air pollution of surrounding environment of each plant was analysed and effect of these pollutants are discussed It is concluoled that emission of SO, and NOx in almost all plants using liquid fuel was higher than standard of performence. In those plants that were using natural gas only NOx was considered a problem. Finally some alternatives are proposed for air pollation abatement.*M
