Abstract:
This paper describes COPEL's experience using the Air Gap Monitoring System (AGMS) at Salto Caxias Power Plant commissioning. An insufficient rotor rim shrinking was detected on all four units using the system. The repairs and verification using the AGMS saved significant time and costs. The new method should be adopted in the future since it detects problems before the commercial operation of the units. Test results comparison is made before and after corrective action, showing the AGMS ability to detect the problem and to confirm the repair effectiveness.
