Abstract:

Translation, this long held practice of mankind, has gone trough several stages in Iran, bearing much fruit in different periods. Having such a long history of translation, however, many people either take for granted or totally overlook the important role it plays in scientific, technological and cultural developments. Yet, the author believes that a historical overview can raise consciousness about the act of translation and the achievements it has brought for mankind in general and Iran in particular. In the present paper, a history of translation in Iran, including chronology, names and events are briefly introduced. Then, implications that the history can have for current situation is elaborated. The researcher has been convinced that historical review of translation can create a translation-positive atmosphere in Iran, which is, needless to say, in need of breakthrough technologies and sciences, an important venue of which is translation. The utmost aim of the present research is raising the aforementioned consciousness
