Abstract:
Atmospheric pressure plasma jets are being intensively studied because of its potential applications in biology and medicine. Therefore, the aim of this research was to study the effects of atmospheric pressure plasma jets on biochemical changes including lipid peroxidation (LPO)and total antioxidant capacity (TAC), in Eisenia fetida, and Aporrectodea trapezoides earthworms after different time treatments. In the study, the levels of TAC and LPO have been assayed after 0, 10, 20, 30, and 40 s exposure with ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) and thiobarbituric acid (TBA) methods, respectively. The results showed the lowest level of TAC was after 20 seconds exposure in both earthworm species (P<0.05). The level of MDA in different treatments of APPJ in E. fetida did not show any difference, while MDA in A. trapezoides after 30 s exposure was more than other treatments (P<0.05). The experiment results suggested, by increasing APPJ exposure time, oxidative stress and lipid peroxidation also increase
