Abstract:
The current deregulation of electricity market, the increasing concerns of the environment and public health issues, and capital costs associated with the distribution and transmission of electricity, have made small-sized distributed power generation (DPG) systems particularly attractive in providing combined heat and power (CHP) to residential complexes and small industries. Hybrid systems based on fuel cells combined with a micro-turbine generator (FC/MTG), a form of DPG systems, are logical candidates to energy market where the demand for multi-megawatt central power plants may not be needed. Micro-turbines, which are typically fuelled with natural gas, generate between 25 and 200 Kw.Different energy sources and converters need to be integrated to meet sustained load demands while accommodating various natural conditions. Recently with the advances in material science and search for green power the professional and public attention for fuel cells as a power source for the future has increased. The paper will describe an integrated approach for performance simulation and behavior of advanced hybrid fuel cell/micro turbine energy systems. The FC/MT model simulation results will be presented and performed parametric analysis will be discussed
