INVESTIGATION OF PASSIVE HEATING SYSTEMS IN URBAN RESIDENTIAL BUILDINGS IN TEHRAN BASED ON LOCAL MATERIALS abstract

The increase of greenhouse gases has affected the eco-systems of our planet and has made it warmer. Buildings are the significant consumers of energy. Hence, more and more buildings are constructed using electrical and mechanical equipment. Therefore, architectural review of the buildings seems essential to reduce the use of active energy in houses. This research investigates the passive heating systems, as a sustainable strategy, in the urban residential areas to reduce energy demand in Tehran. It focuses on the passive heating and cooling systems to provide heat and cool needed for the inner space of apartments, as the main part of consumption in residential sector. The author has chosen Iran and especially the capital city, Tehran, as the case study because of its high concentration population and energy consumption has increasingly grown. Keywords: passive heating system, energy
