Abstract:

Energy audits are systematic processes aimed at evaluating and identifying the energyperformance of buildings, with the intention of proposing measures to enhance it. Onthe other hand, green buildings are structures designed, constructed, operated, andmaintained in a manner that minimizes their negative impact on the environment andhuman health. Both energy audits and green buildings play crucial roles in improvingthe energy efficiency and sustainability of buildings, leading to reduced environmentalimpact and increased social responsibility. However, conducting energy audits andimplementing green building practices can be challenging due to the complex anddiverse nature of building characteristics, occupant behavior, and environmentalfactors. To overcome these challenges and provide accurate predictions andoptimizations of energy consumption, machine learning and big data analytics haveemerged as powerful tools. This paper focuses on exploring the potential of machinelearning and big data analytics in the context of energy audits and green buildings.Various case studies from different countries and contexts are presented todemonstrate their application. The paper begins by reviewing existing literature onenergy audits and green buildings, emphasizing the role of machine learning and bigdata analytics in these fields. Subsequently, each case study is described in terms of itsobjectives, methods, results, and benefits, while highlighting key lessons learned andbest practices. Furthermore, the paper discusses the challenges and limitationsassociated with using machine learning and big data analytics for energy audits andgreen buildings, offering potential solutions and recommendations. The intention is toinspire and encourage further research and application of these technologies in orderto improve the energy efficiency and sustainability of buildings.
