Abstract:
In restructured power systems, market participants try to increase their profits. Therefore, there is a lot of pressure on ISO to reduce generation cost and consequently increase profits. However, ISO is the responsible of system’s security. Hence, it needs a good optimization technique to minimize operating cost while maintaining system’s security. In this paper, reliability constrained unit commitment, which is security constrained unit commitment considering probabilistic criteria for security, is studied. In addition, AC power flow constraints, Voltage restrictions, lines limits, and losses of lines were taken into account. In the first case, SCUC is solved by benders decomposition and branch and bound algorithm. In the second case, SCUC is solved by genetic algorithm, which is not based on gradient. Then the results of both methods are compared.
