Selection of an Optimal Communication System for Electricity Distribution Automation of Mashhad Based on Fuzzy AHP and GA

Distribution Automation is one of the main requirements of the Electrical Energy Distribution Networks. Communication system is the main component for implementing the distribution automation. There are several communication systems which can be used in this application. However, because of some reasons such as variety of criteria in the optimal selection, it is difficult to choose one system from the other systems. In this paper, we face to this subject as a multi criteria decision making problem. Most of the evaluations of the communication systems and weighting of the multiple criteria by a in the decision-making process decision-maker are qualitative and not quantitative. Because of this matter for using such qualitative evaluations, an approach based on Fuzzy AHP is proposed. In order to launch a closer investigation of the problem, first, we consider the modeling of the optimal communication system selection problem for just one communication link between one pair of source and destination, with respect to three criteria, which are Cost, Reliability and Convenience for providing other services. After that we develop the problem into a network. Since evaluating of criteria in the distribution network design is very difficult, here we consider cost of the network as a criterion and the reliability and QoS as two constraints. Therefore we would suggest an approach based on Genetic Algorithm for finding optimal alternative in a two-hierarchical network. We also apply our method on Mashhad Electrical Distribution system and design applied software and find optimal communication system for it.
