Detection of Transformer Winding Deformation using the Input Impedance Measurement abstract

Power transformers are amongst the important and sensetive equipments of a power delivery system. In case of any disorder in them, a whole power plant could turn to be unusable for a period of time or a district could face some problems in power delivery. In some cases, because of the forces caused by short circuit currents, the windings of transformer could be deformed. Inspite of this, the transformer might function properly over a period of time, but any time could be damaged. About important transformers, user is interested to be informed of the internal state of transformer, to be able to change parts at proper time or prepare a reserve system, and through this prevent a long disorder in power delivery. Besides the financial loss would be much less and required repairing time much shorter. By measuring input impedance of transformer coils versus frequency, compairing with input impedance at the starting time, could find out possible deformation.
