Abstract:
The paper discusses quantifying the distance of a specific operating state to voltage collapse. For this purpose, a new index is proposed for the detection of proximity to the static voltage collapse point. The proposed index measures the magnitude of the reduced Jacobian matrix. To obtain the reduced form of the Jacobian matrix, a mathematical transformation, which is a kind of model reduction transformations, has been proposed. This transformation can save only the voltage stability related characteristics of each bus. At the same time, the dimension of the Jacobian matrix is highly reduced so that the proposed index can be applied. This index measures the magnitude of the reduced Jacobian matrix by means of the first order norm that is determinant. The index determines proximity to the voltage collapse point and vulnerability of different buses. The proposed method has been examined on the IEEE 30 test system and Iran's power network. A comparison between the obtained results and results of other indices has been presented, which confirms the validity of the developed approach.
