Abstract:
Due to technology development, energy crisis and continued increase in energy demand while keeping the environment protected there is an increasing interest towards some kinds of energy, like: wind energy, solar energy, biomass, wave energy and fuel cell. it has been found that Solid State Transformer (SST) can communicate with and be connected to Distributed Energy Storage Device (DESDs) and Distributed Renewable Energy Resources (DRERs), such as PV, fuel cell, or storage units. SST also has been found to be a good and practical replacement for conventional transformers in integration of wind power into electrical grids. In this paper the role of SST in integration of wind power, PV, and DC loads into a distribution system is investigated. Simulation results for a 1.5MW DFIG, a 570KW PV and DC loads; show the effectiveness of SST for the grid integration of renewable sources. The results investigate some important features of SST like: voltage conversion, active power flow and reactive power compensation.
