Abstract:

Recently, metal oxide nanoparticles have been used to eliminate bacterial infections. In the present investigation, the antibacterial activity of the MgO nanoparticles (NPs) was determined by the resazurin as an indicator of cell growth. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) of MgO NPs were determined against Escherichia coli O157:H7 and Listeria monocytogenes by the macrodilution-resazurin assay. MgO NPs showed the antibacterial activity against two selected standard pathogen bacteria based on MIC and MBC data. The action of MgO NPs was determined to be bactericidal. According to the present study, the resazurin assay can be used as an accurate method for pathogen susceptibility testing. This method can be used to overcome issues related to color and poor solubility nanoparticles that which may influence on antimicrobial tests.
