Why Formative Assessment is important in e-learning abstract

Objective: The purpose of this research is to survey the importance of Formative Assessment in Electronic-learning. Methods: The present study is a qualitative research which is carried out with respect to the principles of qualitative paradigm. The method of data collection is the study of documents and the search for scientific information from written and digital sources. Findings: After reviewing and analyzing available scientific evidence, five reasons for the importance of Formative Assessment in e-learning have been identified: 1. Assessment as an integral part of any educational system; 2. Limitations of Summative Assessment in e-learning; 3. Helping learners; 4. Helping educators; 5. Helping e-learning institutions and centers. Conclusions: Assessment is the Complementary ring of Teaching and Learning process. In e-learning, as a new way in the educational systems, Assessment also plays a key role. Therefore, an assessment should be made for learning (Formative Assessment) and it should always be of interest to the appraisers of assessment.
